Sixth Form

The Pacific Sixth Form College provides tuition for those intending to go on to higher education. It provides effective preparation for Cambridge A/level Examination the SAT, TOEFL, UTME by thorough exam-specific teaching and close attention to the needs of each individual student. The sixth form programme is a vibrant part of our college where enthusiastic and talented 15-18 year olds have the opportunity to fully develop into young adults taking responsibility for their own learning, growing in confidence and key skills, relishing challenges and opportunities.

The sixth form is the place where our Sixth Formers will grow and mature by rising up to meet new challenges and opportunities which this stage of their education provides.

Our student will flourish in an environment of challenge, encouragement and possibility. The program shall also provide an excellent opportunity for personal development and will be an ideal bridge from secondary school life to the wider world of university and employment.

The sixth form programme is organised to take care of all that prepares our students for university entry. It is structured into

  1. The 2 year Advanced Level Programme
  2. The 10 months University Foundation Programme

The two programmes incorporate the United States College Board exam of SAT and TOEFL as well as preparation for UTME.

1. THE 2 YEAR A – LEVEL PROGRAMME

This programme covers two academic sessions and is divided into the Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth Form

a. THE LOWER SIXTH FORM

ii. The University Foundation Programme

The college university foundation programme offers specially tailored multidisciplinary study programmes to prepare students for degree level study. The programme delivers courses to develop students’ learning skills, knowledge and competencies in ICT, Mathematics and English Language. In addition three core subjects that relates to their intended university programme must be chosen from the A/Level subjects listed above.

The foundation year programme is like the first year of the A/Level study as they both offer the basic courses and their core subject together. Both A/Level and University Foundation students have the opportunity and are trained to write SAT I, SAT II, TOEFL & UTME.

Students on this programme have choices of universities and colleges in United States via SAT, the UK, Canada and other EU countries. Students who desire to study at home are also assured of choice courses because they are sure to achieve high scores in the UTME and Post UTME because of the intensive preparation

CHOICE COURSES Law, Accountancy, Economics Etc.

There is a huge demand for choice courses like medicine, Nursing, Engineering, law, Accountancy, Economics etc. either at home or abroad. Less than 10% of applicants to these programmes succeed and high scores in A/Levels, SAT, TOEFL and UTME are mandatory just to get to the screening stage.

It is therefore crucial for parents to choose sixth form colleges which will not only deliver the exam success but also thoroughly prepare the student in all the other requirements (like post UTME) etc.

This process cannot be left to chance — the right school will surely optimize the chances of a Medical degree, Nursing, Engineering etc.

The programme shall be delivered by Lectures / Seminars and tuition in small classes. The three elective core courses may be chosen from the following

Biology                          Accounting                              CRS

Physics                          Literature in English            Government

Chemistry                     Geography                              History

Economics                    Mathematics                          Sociology

ICT/Computing           Further maths                       Business Studies

The foundation year programme shall be intensive and shall serve as a bridge between the secondary school and the university. The English Language course shall include Critical Reading, Writing, and multiple choice questions in Grammar

Foundation students who so desire may do a further nine months to complete the A-Levels standard — 10 months (Sept- July)

Fast Track — 7 months (January — July)
